The Bruno (Barbara Triggs) Award

This award is in honour of Barbara Triggs’s dedication to Australian wildlife and conservation for over 50 years, which included helping to establish nature reserves, her highly influential field text ‘Tracks, Scats and Other Traces’, championing wildlife hair identification, and greatly enabling progress of the study of mammalian diets.  Bruno was a much-loved wombat of Barbara’s and wombats encapsulate the spirit of this award - hard work and determination in the face of challenges. 

This annual award of $1000 will be presented to any student who meets one or more of the following criteria:

  • Studies of mammals using non-invasive methods
  • Studies focussed on mammal behaviour, care or natural history
  • Students who have demonstrated persistence in the face of adversity and unforeseen challenges
  • Students who are members of the Australian Mammal Society (mandatory)
